It's okay to want to know what you're walking into before you reach out.

Here are answers to the questions I hear most often. If yours isn't here, reach out, and I'll get back to you within one to two business days.

    1. Contact me Fill out the contact form or send me an email. You don't need to have the perfect words - just reach out.

    2. I follow up within 1 to 2 business days I'll reach out to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation at a time that works for you.

    3. Free 15-minute consultation call No pressure, no commitment. We'll talk briefly about what's bringing you to therapy and I'll answer any questions you have. This is just a conversation to see if it feels like a good fit.

    4. Schedule your first session If we both feel good about moving forward, we'll schedule your first full session and go from there.

  • Your first session is 50 minutes and is really about getting to know each other. We'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, your goals, and any important background that helps me understand your story. There's nothing you need to prepare or have figured out beforehand.

Most clients tell me they feel a sense of relief after the first session, just from having a space to say the things they've been carrying quietly. We'll also discuss what a good pace looks like for you — most clients start with weekly sessions, though bi-weekly is also common.

  • If you're asking this question, it probably is. Most people wait much longer than they need to before reaching out. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of my clients come because they want to understand themselves better, break old patterns, or process something they've been carrying for a long time.

If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or like you've been trying to change something and can't, therapy is likely a good next step.

  • I hear this often, and I take it seriously. A bad therapy experience is real and it makes sense that it would make you hesitant to try again. Therapeutic fit matters enormously — the wrong approach or the wrong therapist can leave you feeling worse, not better.

My approach is body-centered and experiential, which means it works differently than traditional talk therapy. Many clients who felt stuck or unheard in previous therapy find that working with the nervous system directly creates a different kind of change. The free consultation call is a good opportunity to ask me anything and get a feel for how I work before committing.

  • This depends entirely on what you're bringing to therapy and your goals. Some clients work with me for a few months around a specific season or transition. Others stay for a year or longer for deeper trauma processing or relational work.

I don't believe in keeping clients in therapy longer than they need. I'll always be honest with you about where we are and what I think serves you best. We'll revisit your goals regularly together.

GETTING STARTED

  • Individual session (50 min) - $185

    In-person or virtual

Payment is due at the time of service. I accept all major credit cards, HSA, and FSA cards.

  • Sagewood Therapy is a private pay practice, which means I do not bill insurance directly. This is a deliberate choice - it allows us to focus entirely on your care, without the limitations, required diagnoses, or session caps that often come with insurance plans.

Your care should be guided by what you need, not by what your insurance will approve.

That said, you may be able to use out-of-network benefits to offset the cost. I'm happy to provide a superbill upon request.

  • A superbill is an itemized receipt that includes the information your insurance company needs to process a reimbursement claim. I'll provide one upon request, and you submit it directly to your insurance provider.

Before submitting, it helps to call your insurance company and ask these questions:

    • Do I have out-of-network mental health coverage?

    • Is telehealth covered for out-of-network providers?

    • Do I need to meet a deductible first, and if so, what is it?

    • What percentage of each session is reimbursed after the deductible?

    • Are there limits on the number of sessions per year?

    • What documentation do I need to submit?

  • Yes. I believe that cost should not be the only barrier between someone and the support they need. I offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments for clients who need them. Please reach out and we can have an honest conversation about what's possible.

FEES AND INSURANCE

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-supported therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. It uses bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements, tapping, or sound) to help stuck memories and emotions move through the nervous system.

A session doesn't involve talking through everything in detail. Instead, you bring a memory or feeling to mind while the bilateral stimulation happens, and your brain does the processing work naturally. Most clients describe it as feeling unexpectedly gentle, and many notice significant shifts after just a few sessions.

It is not hypnosis, and you are in full control throughout. I'll walk you through every step before we begin anything new.

  • Traditional talk therapy works primarily through insight - understanding why you feel the way you do. That understanding is valuable, but for many people, especially those carrying trauma or anxiety rooted in the body, insight alone doesn't create the change they're looking for.

My approach works with the nervous system directly, using EMDR and AEDP to help the body process what the mind already understands. Many clients describe it as the thing that finally worked after years of trying other approaches.

  • I work with individuals only. My specialty is in individual trauma, anxiety, and perinatal mental health therapy. If you're looking for couples therapy, I'm happy to provide a referral to a trusted colleague.

  • Absolutely. In many cases, pregnancy is one of the best times to begin. Prenatal therapy can help you prepare emotionally for birth and early parenthood, process anxiety or fear, and address patterns you'd like to shift before your baby arrives. I am a certified Perinatal Mental Health therapist (PMH-C) with specific training in supporting women through pregnancy, so this is work I'm well-equipped to do with you.

  • That's completely okay and more common than you might think. You don't need to arrive with a clear sense of your goals or a diagnosis or even the right words. The consultation call is a good place to start, you can tell me a little about what's been going on and I'll help you figure out whether and how I can help. There's no pressure to have it figured out before we talk.

THE WORK ITSELF

  • Yes to both. I see clients in person at my office in West Chester, PA, located at 999 W. Chester Pike, Suite 200-2. I serve clients throughout Chester County and nearby areas, including Downingtown, Exton, Malvern, and Paoli.

Virtual therapy is available to anyone in Pennsylvania via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Many clients find telehealth especially convenient during the postpartum period or busy seasons of parenting.

  • I ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or missed sessions may be charged the full session fee. I understand that life with young children is unpredictable and I always try to approach this with flexibility and care.
